Have found some plans for a two door cabinet/sand for my 4foot tank. They use 4x4 wood for everything. My question is would 4x2 be alright? I don wont it to sag but I wont to keep it as light as possible.

4x4 is pretty extreme for a 4ft tank how big is it etc? 4x2 the correct way (ie the strongest lengthwise way) should be fine..

If you use a 2X4 you have to turn it on its edge, a 4X2 you don't....

You can't actually buy either here, only 100x50 rough sawn or 90x45 gauged... ;)

You can get it here. In the Placemakers system (a couple of years ago) it was listed as "100x50 RS UT (4x2)" which means 100x50 rough sawn untreated (also known as 4x2)

100 X 50 is not the same as 4 X 2, it is the metric equivalent. In practical terms they are so similar it would not matter which you used.
