Aquarium Plant Survey
The aquarium plant survey is an attempt to provide New Zealand aquarist with a resource describing the plants available in New Zealand. At the same time it is hoped that aquarists in New Zealand will add and update comments to each plant page, in particular with information regarding availability.

These page have been taken from a booklet compiled by the Federation of New Zealand Aquatic Societies Inc. in an endeavour to list the range of aquatic plants available to aquarists in N.Z. A scale of availability, from common to scarce, is noted against each entry. The figure 5 is the extreme and indicates the plant is not currently available in N.Z. "A" or "B" indicates a noxious plant; while at the top right corner of each panel is a 'quick' indication of each plant's preferred habitat:- ie. Pond, Bog, Floating Coldwater, Temperate or Tropical. This does not mean the plant will not accept other conditions - experience proves otherwise. At least 70% of the plants in this survey are bog plants and many when adult, grow emersed foliage above the surface, some with leaves a metre above the water surface.
This book's prime purpose is a plant survey, not a book on plants, nor a 'standards chart' but provision has been made for Judges and Standards (J&S) to adapt this work if needed.
With the exception of a 'sample' Lotus, Papyrus, and waterlily, New Zealand marginal aquatic plants and rushes are not included in this work but can be researched in Coffey & Clayton's New Zealand Water Plants 1988 Ed. A small section on Marine Algaes and Corals is appended at the back of this work to encourage the fast growing marine hobby.

Aquarium Plants - by Christel Kasselmann, Ulf Kotlenga
Translated from the popular 1999 revised German edition, Aquarium Plants describes the temperature, water, fertilizer, and light needs of more than 300 aquarium plants. Artificial lighting - lamp types, color temperatures, and mounting - is discussed in detail and the author provides advice on choosing the right plants for an aquarium. Ecological factors, flower biology and morphology, and reproduction methods receive detailed coverage. The book contains 525 color photographs with nearly all plants depicted with fully developed submerged foliage. Many of the photographs of rare plants were published for the first time in the German edition. Botanists as well as professional and amateur aquarium keepers will find this book indispensable.
A guide to aquatic and marsh plants that can be grown in aquariums by hobbyists and botanists. Alphabetically arranged by scientific name, the 300-plus entries list synonyms, etymology, geographical distribution, characteristics for plant identification, cultivation recommendations, and natural ecology. The book begins with a chapter on the importance of ecological factors in the cultivation of aquarium plants. The color photographs are abundant.
